Funding the biz!

Lemmo here. You guys and me, we have a cordial, albeit informal relationship. Let me welcome you into my inner sanctum for a moment.

Let’s be clear. What we do here isn’t a charity, but it is still an act of artistic expression and a perpetual passion. I’ll draw comics until the day I die, whether you support them or not. But to be fair, sometimes our projects, like potted flowers, need some water to grow. And by water, I mean dollars.

I’ve hit a glass ceiling with my art, and it’s high time I move to a fully digital medium. So I’m investing my own personal money into a new tablet. I’m putting my money into Blank It with no expectation of returns other than quality. But you are in a unique position, as you can put less money into Blank It and get even more out of it!

Go into our Blank It merch store and pick out a shirt or two, maybe some hand juice, and by all means, get the book if you haven’t already. They’re wonderful. All proceeds go right back into this beloved project, allowing us to create more, better. And as we said, we’re not making those shirt designs again, so when you get it, you get pure “old school” bragging rights.

I look at every order myself. And if you order with love, I’m going to cram your order with freebies. I still have posters and Captain Phenomenal books from conventions that I’m more than happy to give out to people who pitch in. I have piles of original art panels, I’m just going to start signing and putting into orders. Get some swag, help Aric and I fund our growth, and of course, you’ll always continue to get more out of it as the project lives on.

Or hell, just donate. We love you either way.

Gah, the smallest T-shirt you guys stock has a 40-inch chest! Let my skinny brothers free, Lemmo, let them free! :(

  2. NoriMori

Lol @jameslite, at least you’re not too big for the biggest size. (Not that I am, I’m just saying…) Or so well-endowed that the only Portal hoodie that will fit around your bust will also reach your knees. -_- *sigh*

And Lemmo, dammit, why are you so good at making me feel bad?? D’: I’m going to buy shit right away! :O

    *looks at store*

Except…except…the T-shirts don’t interest me, the koozie doesn’t interest me, and the book…well…I can read those strips online for free. :( Hmm…but maybe…maybe we can convince some Maker of Awesome Drinks™ to make real, authentic hand juice!!! :O And then you will have a ton of people buying it, and you’ll get moar monie$$$$$!!!! :D

Does…does that sound like a good idea?? OMG I’LL MAKE A PETITION! Everybody, let’s petition some Maker of Awesome Drinks™ to make a non-carbonated (I hate carbonation) hand juice! It’ll be sweet! LITERALLY! XD

Regardless of NoriMori’s lack of spending, I shall be happy to buy some of your lovely products.

  4. NoriMori

Thanks, Jety. -_- I’ll have you know that I’m donating, so >:P!

I don’t know much about running an online store, but I think plushies would be a welcome addition to your shelves, especially given how popular Parasox are with the fandom. I’d totally buy Parasox plushies to give as gifts. You could maybe even make plushie penguins, or plastic bug-in-a-bug-in-a-bugs or something.

I’m sure there’s some kind of cost to having that kind of offering, but I’d like to see some of that action. For now I’ll just donate a few bucks, though.

You guys should get some Google ads. I know, I know, they won’t pay enough to support you, but they’re a hell of a lot better than the Project Wonderful crap you run now. I run a couple of small forums, a dozen members on each or so, and I make about $100 a month. I’m sure you have more than 25 readers, so I imagine you’ll make more than that. You don’t even have to put them in obtrusive places, just somewhere where we can find them and click on them once or twice a day.

I couldn;t agree more, and I definitely plan on buying a book once I get some money from my own comic.

  8. Chaos Theory

    Also, I second the plushies.

  9. NoriMori

@ThisIsNotDan, I completely second the plushies. I’m trying to imagine why I *wouldn’t* buy Parasox plushies. And if the BlankIt budget ever allows, maybe even voice boxes that have them say some of our favourite phrases???? “Clams are great!” “Fire cleans all!” “I’mma Ferris wheel!” “I’mma a baketball hoop!” “I’mma teamwork!”

But The bug-in-a-bug-in-a-bug wouldn’t have to be plastic, it could be a zip-up plushie, and Fergus could have a voice box too! (Again, if your budget ever got high enough to make something like that…) I would love to hear all his insults in his lovely accent. XD

I’m thinking another successful thing would be shirts with the signs’ phrases on them, like “Warning: Old People Wanting to Play Cribbage”. XD

And my final suggestion… A bugplane PIÑATA!!!

How about a cloth hat where if you buy it you don’t know if you’ll get a green or brown one until you receive it?

  11. inusushi

Hay Lemmo~ If you were to make buttons, what size do you think you’d want them? I’m leaning towards 1.25″ ones or maybe 1.5″. Northwind and Blank It buttons? Y/Y??

I’m happy to help out. Your comic is wonderful and I appreciate the immense effort that goes into it. I really love the plushies idea even though I bet it would be a hell of an initial investment on your part. I don’t know if this is possible but a favorite writer of mine recently joined up with this group http://www.throx.com/home.html and they make novelty socks for a pretty low price sooooo perhaps some Parasox Socks would be possible?

(Don’t let the “proceeds to MS” by the Christopher Moore F***Socks dissuade you). Sorry for the double post, hope this helps.

a pun popped into my mind just a moment ago and now I can’t get over the fact that I totally would have bought a Blank It blanket. B)
