Preface

Little is actually known about the BlankIt universe. This page is not for what is known, but for what is guessed at and predicted. Documenting an idea on this page is not mutually exclusive with formal and informal discussion on other pages; in fact, this page could eventually become merely a link page to a great variety of theories. And yes, this page was named for the TVTropes pages of a similar variety.

Cosmological

Canvas as a Character

S. Mackie believes that Chip the Biscuitd00d is a sign that the Canvas has wants and needs, including a want and need to interact with Aric and most likely Lemmo as well. This interaction seems neither perfectly malevolent or benevolent; the intelligence involved has spawned replacement hats, replacement hands, replacement Arics, and strangely placed impetus for conversation. It may also specifically respond (in a slightly negative manner) to any attempt by Aric to make rational conclusions about it.
See also Fedorovistanigrad's first entry on Chip the Biscuitd00d, further down.

Pair Theory

First there was Aric. This was not enough, so he was paired with Lemmo. When events pulled them apart, Lemmo met Fergus, and shortly thereafter met Automaric. (Aric met relatively few entities during his sailing trip; however, his pants started talking during the initial crash, then shut up again.) Upon further separation, Aric was immediately joined by Chip the Biscuitd00d, and Lemmo was stalked by an Unsettler, known to us as Misty or Arica. (At present, by definition, she has no name.)
The model of this cosmos seems to incorporate a sort of pairing potential, at least for Aric and Lemmo. While they meet many sentient things in their travels (disregarding the everpresent Canvas!) the ones they spend the most dialogue and attention with are those they meet after being separated. In short, the pair unpaired generate other pairings.

God theory (aka young universe)

thegreatpl posted this in the forum speculating about the purpose of the universe.

"my theory is that Lemmo and Aric are the gods of the universe. how and why they came to be there is not important.

they are essentially the creators. my theory is what they are in is a very young universe. nothing exists until it does. all it starts off is the white ground. the rest is nothing. then, Lemmo and Aric and a few other items are added. and more are added, and the items already added begin to shape the universe. as the universe is shaped, more things are added and things are transformed. things may be removed (but i dont think so).

so, by knocking over the mountain, Lemmo has created a sea or ocean. the mountain seems to have expanded to somehow keep all that purple stuff in, or something. actually, Lemmo seems to be the definite god: his walking on water points to that. his also calling into existence the shadow people by naming them also kind of points to a creator figure. at the moment, they look sort of like spirits. the soul. once they are named, they are brought into the universe.

Aric seems to either have a harder time controlling his powers, or he doesnt have any. i dont actually know if he is a god, or if his purpose is to give company to Lemmo and stop him from going crazy.

now for another question: are there other gods? i think there might be at least 3 more: the god of the bugs, the god of the penguins, and the god of the cookie people (although im less sure of this last one). if Aric is a god, then i think there are 6 more: two of each.

these gods seem to be farther along on the creation process: both the bugs and the penguins have technology, and cookie people seem to have created a society (the cookies law and the king) whereas the humans still have not been given life for the most part.

whether this means they arrived sooner, or started to get things done rather than messing around all the time for a bunch of days, I dont know.

of course, then there arises a problem of the map; why did it not show anything else when they looked at it? is it because the other societies and races were brought into this world after looking at it? was that thing appearing in the last few seconds the bug town? if Lemmo names the town around the shovel, will it spring into existence and solidness?"

"Black Hole Theory"

In This Theory, user:bill22y Suggests that Before the canvas even came into play, Aric and Lemmo were sent on a space-plane mission with NASA where Aric was the pilot and lemmo was the "Guinea Pig" NASA under-estimated the range of the black hole's suction power, Conclusively,The space plane and the contents were sucked into the black hole, and morphed accordingly, all objects in the black hole were transported directly to the canvas, everything in the Blank-It universe have Roots to the space plane.

Individuals

Misty

Citing that Lemmo's hat when removed was 'replaced' with a green one of similar make, Sqverl posits on June 10th 2009 that Misty is actually Aric. As an item left behind may become something new, Sqverl posits Misty may be Aric's replacement. Further evidence lies in the fact that Aric has been replaced once before.
If her presence is in some way tied with Aric's absence, I posit we're just as likely to give her the fanon name of Arica eventually, especially since there is precedent to do so.
As of A Morsel of Helpings, this would seem somewhat debunked; Aric is now accounted for and Lemmo is missing. However, Automaric was for many purposes a replacement, so see the above Pair Theory.

Chip the Biscuitd00d

S. Mackie posits that Chip the Biscuitd00d's initial reaction to Aric, to pat his knee, amounts to an endorsement of biscuits/cookies as Comfort Food. Probably subverted/invalidated by the following comic.

Fedorovistanigrad posits that Chip the Biscuitd00d appeared originally because the Blank It universe appears to be at least partially sentient; 'universe' aka Canvas aka "King" seems to directly intervene when an individual wishes for something specific- that is, it intervenes to directly counteract that individual's wishes. Thus, when Aric wished to simply exist, and not be a catalyst or around a catalyst, the Canvas had 'Chip' appear to counteract that wish. It is also posited that 'Chip' did not carry Aric of its own free will, but rather was simply serving Cookie Law, in that a 'wrong' act must be righted; it is posited that 'Chip,' being a divine intervention on the part of the Canvas, aka "King," had no choice to intervene, but is also sentient in its own right, and feels obligated to 'right' its wrong- its wrong being that of counteracting Aric's wishes. Thus, 'Chip' carried Aric until it felt that its obligation had been paid. Could be invalidated easily by appearance of next comic.

Fedorovistanigrad also posited the possibility that Wendall is capable of communicating with the King and/or summoning a Cookie Army. From Mackie's perspective, that method would best be described as telepathic and/or magical. Is Chip a telepath? Note in favor of his possibility: Warranted Offerings. Wendall knew what the King was thinking.

The Cookie King

S. Mackie posits that the Cookie King's mouth, however much he may speak, never closes. It is locked open in what is, for its other side, a horrible grimace.

Wolfox specifically posits that the Cookie King can stand (or be knocked) on its head to invoke another personality, Daniel specifically stating that it is invoked when the King is enraged. What kind of personality? One more terrifying than we can possibly imagine.

Saul mentions that its eyes make the gingerbread aspect appear female: it has boobs. Grey, round boobs, supported by white cups. Zapheres notes, "I think the gingerbread man is smiling in the second frame because the cookie king’s eyebrow is pressing “up” on ginger’s boob."

Biology

Hair in General

Edmond, on 17:11, 29 June 2009 (UTC), said: "Check out Lemmo’s hair…is it my imagination or are the three spikes in front growing over time? I think hair might be autonomous creatures in this reality, possibly ordering their own drinks at restaurants and communicating in their own language. Beware the hair."
Presently meshes with the use of Automaric's robot hair as a surprisingly effective replacement for Aric's hair, lost during elective surgery. That, and yeah, it does seem like Lemmo's bangs get bigger and bigger. Lemuel Pew has introduced into this dialogue the possibility that his art is simply whack; we're not buyin' it. Fedorovistanigrad would posit that the entire issue of the hair being sentient, at least in Lemmo's case, is moot. Lemmo's hair may simply just be growing through natural processes as the comic unfolds. Aric's hair is a different story, being that it is robotic in origin; it is posited that this hair may be mimicking hair's natural growth. Of course, it could be as easy to explain as that, or that hypothesis could be completely off, as is the case with Blank It most of the time. It just seems that sometimes things are over-complicated.

Aric's Hair

Aric's hair is unusual, no doubt about it. After losing most of it to elective surgery at the Shovel Beam, Automaric's hair has taken up the slack, at first unruly but now simply very long. Maglorious (7-7-09) asks and Thanatos (7-2-07) posit that Aric's robot hair may consume/take over his body, and/or that it has the general ability to eat, respectively. If it seems necessary to name Aric's hair, Maglorious has ably coined the name "Medusa."
In support of this idea, there is the precedent that Automaric already had a dependent Little Robot Friend. Perhaps the disguise also consisted of semi-intelligent dependent entities. This might explain why the hair stays put.
