S. Mackie has taken it upon himself to name the white background the "canvas." First, it seems, there was only Aric and the white background, so he feels the name Canvas is fitting. Feel free to mock him.

Often white, although events during 2008 provided a location which may or may not invalidate that description. It really depends on events within the darkened area, that is, whether or not they belong to the original Canvas.

As seen in Mission Failure, the Canvas seems to openly discourage Aric's wish to live in the static, and forces interaction by one means or another.
