“Time is a part of the measuring system used to sequence events, to compare the durations of events and the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change such as the motions of objects.”
@tacos we have already talked about that once and never came to a conclusion really. personally I think something else will happen to his wooden stump arm.
on another note I’m surprised nothing has happened with the up-side-down underground city yet.
Lol, I love Lemmo’s face in panel 2, he’s all like “WAT”.
A slightly better description would be “It’s the measurement of…things…between events…”
But seriously, I think every sentient organism has an innate concept of time, even if unconsciously. I don’t think we’d be able to function if we didn’t. So what Marina (lol I almost called her Misty) just said kinda baffles me.
The problem with many definitions of time is that elements used to describe it can themselves only be described using ‘time.’
Due to the means by which we measure it, to use time is essentially the measurement of regular repeating events, from the spin and orbit of the earth to the rapid oscillations of an atom.
And he breaks his silence! To say, “sorta.” Based on his calm expression, I’d say Aric was just patiently waiting for everyone to remember he was still there. Perhaps he really has gotten used to this place now.
“EXISTENTIALISM”
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
“I think time is the measurement of change.”
It certainly points in the direction of increasing entropy, so far as I can tell. Of course, then he’d have to explain entropy, but that’s not too hard, at least for the basics.
“Kid of Death said: Also, Fergus looks kinda bored with this conversation. He’s being awfully quiet.”
Fergus is moping and trying not to attract Marina’s attention! XD
Again, a throwback to one of the first comics. First the universe that repeats every ten feet, now “What is time?” again. Maybe every time Lemmo asks a big question it’s bound to have some effect later on…
I just read all these comics! I fell instantly in love from the begining! But u hooked me with the penguins xD can anyone tell me when this gets updated? That would help me alot to continue being a reader! Thanks for any help! =) I <3 Marina and lemmo- they should totally fall in love
“People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect; but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it’s more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey… stuff.”
Sorry. I really could not resist quoting Doctor Who.
I think I know what is going on. Since Lemmo asked way back when what time is, he must be unsure as to the concept of time itself. Based on this, Lemmo contributes to the Canvas’s inhabitants knowledge base, where as Aric’s desire to remain static creates said inhabitants.
imagine that all of this actually happened to lemmo and aric and all the unrealistic things were actually just like metaphors for the actual people and events and such
Anyway, a good way to explain it to Marina, and which I could totally see Lemmo saying, is, “Remember when we first met?” “Yeah.” “Okay, so, remember how we met just now?” “Yeah…” “Well, between when we first met and when we second met, is called ‘time’.”
Lol, everyone’s quoting Lemmo’s “What is time?” thing, but I much prefer Aric’s reaction: “If you ruin this moment with existentialism, I will cut through your optic nerve with my molars and bury my pants in your eye sockets.” XD!!!! ARIC FTW!!! What’s funny is that a lot of people are bringing up existentialism here, and yet I doubt if many of them consciously remember that Aric also called it that the last time Lemmo brought up time. XD

What exactly is time? Really?
April 8th, 2011 at 1:12 am
The measurement of things between things… yep, that just about sums it up!
April 8th, 2011 at 1:28 am
Umm. What the hell, seriously what is time and why do I know it’s a thing?
April 8th, 2011 at 2:18 am
“No.”
“Sorta.”
hahahaha

Thank you, Wikipedia.

If he drinks hand juice, will the hand grow back through the wood or will he get a wooden hand, or will a hand just grow on his head?

EXISTENTIALISM! YAY!
Hes right, too, lol.

If she does not know of time, does that mean that
1. unsettlers do not die
2. they are too new to the world to have experience with time.
or did I miss something?

I agree with NoriMori: Lemmo’s face in Panel 2 is AMAZING. Also, where are the Parasox running off to?
(On a different note, are the comics on the 21st & 28th going to be replaced with colored varients, still? Just curious.)

April 8th, 2011 at 6:54 pm
@X: I don’t think they’re running off anywhere. It looks sorta like they’re just playing.
Also, Fergus looks kinda bored with this conversation. He’s being awfully quiet. I wonder when he’s going to start insulting people again.
April 8th, 2011 at 10:19 pm
People think of time as a progression of cuase to effect, but actually, time us a big ball of…wibbly wobbly……timey wimey…. Stuff.

Considering its color, i always imagined it smelled like Mountain Dew, or Sprite. Some sort of lemon/lime drink. Most likely Mountain Dew.

Time is all relative anyways.
and curved by mass.

ummm that guy that blew up cookie castle obviously knew what time was because the explosion was timed…maybe he hid that concept from the unsettlers

The perspective in the 3d panel is a nice touch.
